Nilam has responsibility for the day to day management of the Water Innovation Network. As well as the co-ordination between partners, managing the ideas submission process, marketing  and events management.

Amy WilsonAmy Wilson, Innovation Integration Manager

Amy’s academic qualifications, which include a BSc in Zoology and an MA in Public Administration, are complemented with a diverse range of skills that she developed during her career at a north Cambridgeshire district council up to 2015. She spent four years working in policy, performance and communications, then joined the business development team, which saw her leading projects to tackle complex employability and education issues in the area. Amy worked with schools, businesses, local networks and a range of other individuals and community organisations on various projects such as improving work skills, developing industry-led skills centres and supporting businesses to grow.

As Innovation Integration Manager, Amy has the responsibility to look at potential benefits of new technologies, services or systems and work with colleagues in different areas of Anglian Water to build them into the business. Her experience in working with businesses means Amy has a good understanding of the difficulties businesses face in getting new ideas ready for commercialisation and a passion to help businesses succeed, particularly start-ups and SMEs, who often face significant barriers to developing new technologies and products.

Amy also has a passion for music and sings in an acoustic duo that play at festivals, events and functions.

Steve Kaye, Head of Innovation, Anglian Water Services

Steve KayeSteve is a chartered mechanical engineer and has worked in the water industry for over twenty years. Steve has also achieved an MBA from City University in London and is a visiting professor with the Centre for Environmental Policy at Imperial College, London.

Steve’s career in the water industry started in the manufacturing industry where he was involved in the research, design and manufacture of water networks technology.

At Anglian Water Steve has played a key role in delivering major capital projects in water and water recycling, followed by a period as a regional operations manager in water recycling and currently the Head of Innovation.

Other activity Steve has been involved in include, chairing the Industrial Advisory Group at Cranfield University, Leader of the European WssTP water and energy nexus task force, he is also the chairman of the STREAM programme (collaboration between 5 UK universities supporting water related EngD projects).

Steve is a creative individual who is passionate about making a better world through innovation.

Gareth Jones, Centre Manager, Allia

Gareth has helped business for the last 10 years to develop innovative solutions and grow new business’s, as well as connecting business’s to support services from funding bodies to international networks.

Oliver Grievson – Flow Compliance & Reg Efficiency Manager

Oliver GrievsonOliver is a qualified Chartered Environmentalist, Chartered Scientist and a Chartered Water & Environmental Manager, which has allowed him to be a Fellow of CIWEM & Institution of Environmental Sciences as well as being a Member of the Institute of Measurement & Control.Oliver Grievson

Having started his career in the labs analysing everything from boiler waters to drinking water and everything in between for 5 years. Oliver then left to work in Water & Wastewater workings in the Falkland Islands, which involved everything from water supply & distribution networks, wastewater & collection networks to working as an authorising engineer for ships and planes. Returning to the UK, after completing a Master’s Degree, Oliver gained a position as a Design & Commissioning Engineer at Grontmij for most of the Water & Sewerage Companies in the UK and beyond. At the end of AMP 4 (2009) and after commissioning the treatment works at Lower Brighouse (Huddersfield), Oliver went to work for Yorkshire Water as a technical authority in wastewater process. In 2012 Oliver gained his current position at Anglian Water as the Flow Compliance & Regulatory Efficiency Manager.

Innovation to Oliver is moving the Water Industry forward to do everyday jobs in a better, easier and more efficient way. It is working within the industry in a collaboration to develop better ways of working from treatment processes to instrumentation & control systems to ensure that the customer gets the best possible service whilst protecting the environment.

Roz Roden – Supply Chain Professional (Buyer)

Roz RodenCompleting a BSc (hons) Chemistry, Roz has since become a qualified Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS).

This has led to a career in procurement for over 30 years at various businesses, and she has enjoyed 14 years at Anglian Water.
Roz sees innovation as a great opportunity to keep up with developments in the supply market that can potentially create great efficiencies at Anglian Water.

In her spare time Roz enjoys skiing, singing and playing badminton!

Valerie Hindie – Energy Projects Development Engineer

Valerie joined Anglian Water in November 2014 as an Energy Project Development Engineer. The key reason for Valerie joining the Water Innovation Network steering group, is to find new innovative solutions to help reduce Anglian Water’s energy consumption and being aware of what is happening tomorrow to know how to plan today.

Having an academic background in engineering including an MSc in Design of Rotating Machine and Energy Management, has led to an extensive professional background in that includes working on finite element analyst / material failure and fatigue, design of compressor / gas and steam turbines, selection and maintenance of rotating machines (pumps, compressors, gas turbines, steam turbines, diesel engine, motors), energy management / energy efficiency, petrochemicals, Oil and gas projects, refrigeration study and live monitoring.

As a dynamic person Valerie enjoys a number of hobbies and is passionate about the arts.

Andrew Smith – Regional Optimisation Manager, Water Service

Specialising in leakage control and network management, Andy has worked within the water industry both in the UK and overseas for over 25 years. His current role as Regional Optimisation Manager for Anglian Water involves working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement a range of innovative interventions and solutions as part of Anglian Waters Strategy for Source to Tap Optimisation.

Andy sees the Water Innovation Network as one of the key enablers for Anglian Water to move towards and create the water network of the future.

Ashley Roe, Consultant 
SONY DSCThe Water Innovation Network is able to facilitate commercial support for companies wishing to enter the UK water and water recycling market. This support is supplied directly by our associate Mr Ashley Roe. Mr Roe is an experienced water industry professional who has extensive experience in the management, operations and commercial development in the sector both in the UK and internationally.

He has worked at the highest levels of Governments ensuring project delivery and in particular challenging current thinking enabling innovation and the creative use of resources.

Ashley was previously a director of Severn Trent International and has also managed small companies and supported the development of innovations in the sector, currently is the interim Chief Executive at British Water the UK’s water sector trade association.

Ashley is able to support the market entry of companies and individuals who wish to develop and sell their products and services. The services provided include market information, introductions, planning, business and commercial support.
